In 2010 The Stages core design and executive team, holding more than 200 patents and a combined 50 years of design, manufacturing and product experience in the cycling and fitness industry set out to pioneer a simple, accurate and affordable power measurement system. They started with what they knew, indoor cycling and developed power meters to work on indoor cycling bikes operating under the high demands of health clubs and their indoor cycling programs. These were the first Stages Cycling power measurement test subjects and after countless hours of work spent fine-tuning the meter’s capabilities and testing thousands of indoor bikes, the Stages team began work to produce their first outdoor power meter system.
Stages pioneered Active Temperature Compensation, keeping the meter accurate despite changing climates and without the need to stop pedaling. Bluetooth was added so the meter could be easily updated with contemporary firmware and Stages were the first to use an accelerometer to measure cadence eliminating the need for any external sensors or cables, something the competition said was impossible. The result was a product that set trends at a price like no one had ever seen in the power meter category. Coming to market in 2012 Stages Cycling completely blow apart the category of power measurement.

Today, Stages Power meters are still designed and assembled in Boulder, Colorado, the endurance sport mecca of the World and are the official power meter of the World’s best road, mountain, triathlon, BMX and cyclo-cross cyclists. The new pricing structure will see a permanent drop to the RRP of all power meters including Shimano Ultegra 6800 down to an amazing $799, a saving of over 10% and the top-of-the-line Dura-Ace 9100 down to $899 from $999. Even the revolutionary new Stages for Campagnolo range will see a drop in RRP across all models.
